Hello from the Grammar School Insider team! Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. As this is the first GSI newsletter, I thought it would be helpful to say a little about what the site is about.
We came into being following the experiences of trying to find a place at a selective non-fee school for my daughter. Like just about every parent, I wanted the best for my daughter and, unfortunately, that meant looking outside the comprehensive system. I wished then and still wish that wasn’t the case and really hope that in years to come we can find a free-to-use education system that doesn’t involve either spending huge amounts of money on fees or moving next door to a rare school that combines access for all with an education that seeks to make all its students achieve their highest levels.
Until that happy day arrives, we have a system that includes schools with a selective criteria. As we made our way through that system, we wished there was one online home for news, resources, opinions, help and support. Happily, my daughter was successful. That success couldn’t have happened without the incredible amount of work she put in. We don’t claim to reduce the amount of work that your son or daughter will have to accomplish, but we do hope to make it easier for you to find him or her the right tools and give you the best advice possible.
The stories on the website hopefully show you what we are trying to achieve.
Obviously, Covid-19 will have a massive impact on things. We report on efforts to eliminate 11 plus exams this year and detail schools that have delayed their tests. Given that physical mocks are going to be delayed or curtailed, we suggest how you might hold your own.
Tutoring will be seen by many as inevitable, and so we have invited tutors to pass on their advice.
Finally, we are keen to hear from you. If there are things that you would like to see on the site, please drop me an email. You can also write and share your experience of taking your child through the 11-plus adventure (we pay a small fee for these). We do take advertising, which will be indicated as sponsored content.
That’s all for now – thanks again for your support, it really is appreciated.
